More Than Meets the Eye
Have you ever been in a situation where you thought, there is more going on here than meets the eye?
On May 13, the British Antarctic Survey spotted a newly formed iceberg that had broken off from Antartica and is now floating in the Weddell Sea. it’s called A-76 and it is the largest iceberg in the world.
It’s more than 1600 square miles making it bigger than the state of Rhode Island!
What’s interesting about icebergs is that only 10% of an iceberg is above water. The other 90% is below the surface of the water. So if you ever get a chance to see one what you need to know is that there is more to that iceberg than meets the eye!
And that’s true in many areas of our lives. But have you ever thought about what that means when it comes to worship?
The Worship of Heaven
If you fast forward to the end of scripture you’ll find this book called Revelation. It’s really a letter written by a man named John. In this letter John writes down a revelation, a vision, he was given from Jesus for the church.
There’s a lot to unpack in Revelation, but what’s really interesting is that on more than one occasion we get a glimpse of the worship of Heaven.
So in Revelation 4.8, John writes that he saw living beings gathered around the throne of God singing day after day and night after night,
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty –
the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”
In Revelation 5.12, John says that millions of angels are a part of a mighty chorus singing,
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain-
to receive power and riches
and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and blessing.”
And these moments of worship appear all throughout this revelation. In Revelation 19.1, all of heaven sings,
“Praise the LORD!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.”
And if I had to guess, John probably only wrote down about 10% of what he saw!
I mean, how do you capture with words a vision of the worship of Heaven?
But what John reveals to us through these glimpses of the worship of heaven is that the worship of God is never ending. It is unceasing.
Every day and every night, songs of worship fill the throne room of heaven declaring the greatness of our God. The worship of Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world so we can experience relationship with God and unhindered fellowship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit goes on and on and on.

There’s more to worship than meets the eye!
When we worship, we get to join in with the worship of heaven.
When we worship, we get to sing the songs that declare the greatness of our God, that proclaim our love and gratitude for Him, and celebrate what God has done through Jesus.
We surrender our lives to Him and declare our dependance on Him.
And when we worship we join our voices with the voices of Heaven. We participate in the unceasing praise that belongs to God alone.
There’s more to worship than meets the eye.
Maybe you thought your worship was a small thing. But next time you worship just remember, what you see, what you hear, what you experience… it’s only 10% of what’s actually happening! The other 90% happens in the throne room of heaven.
And I don’t know about you, but there’s something exciting about realizing that when we worship we join in with the mighty chorus of Heaven, with the angels who never stop singing, with songs of worship that say in faith…
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty…
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain…
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.”
