In the Quiet
In the quiet. That’s where you can find him. That’s where Elijah found Him. That’s where Jesus found Him. That’s where Daneil found Him. That’s where James found Him. That’s where so many have found Him before & that’s where you can find Him too.
Can you get quiet?
That’s a big question. It’s one thing to find a place without distraction. To turn off your devices. To get still. But even if you’ve taken all those necessary steps, you still have once overwhelming obstacle to face. Perhaps the hardest. Perhaps the one discipline that will take the most effort. Because after you’ve turned everything off & created a quiet space, you still have to quiet your mind.
To quiet your mind & think only of God, to breath the name Yahweh, to still your inner thoughts & turn off worry. To discover a moment of peace not just on the outside, but on the inside. This is where you can find Him. In the quiet. This is where you can hear His voice. In the sound of sheer silence.
In his book “The Pursuit of God,” A.W. Tozer describes it this way: “Believing, then, is directing the heart’s attention to Jesus. It is lifting the mind to “behold the Lamb of God,” and never ceasing that beholding for the rest of our lives. At first this may be difficult, but it becomes easier as we look steadily at His wondrous Person, quietly and without strain. Distractions may hinder, but once the heart is committed to Him, after each brief excursion away from Him the attention will return again and rest upon Him like a wandering bird coming back to its window.”
[Tweet “”Believing, then, is directing the heart’s attention to Jesus.” #Tozer”]May you spend time today quietly beholding the Lamb of God. Do not be discouraged if it is not easy. Do not be afraid to try again & again. I believe you will find as many have before that with some consistency & practice you can find a quiet place & quiet the inside space inside of you. And when you do I believe you will find God there, in the quiet.
