How’s Your Prayer Life?
Hard to Pray
Can I ask you a question? How’s your prayer life?
I know for some people it’s hard to pray.
It’s hard to know what to pray. Or how to pray. And then there’s always the problem of when to pray.
We’re all so busy and have so much going on, it’s not easy to find the time and even when we do, our minds are still spinning with all that’s going on, all the things we have to do, the problems we’re facing, and on and on.
Even if we had a few minutes, it takes time to quiet our mind and to be still.

One of the things I’ve found helpful is to set aside a time and a place to pray.
Go ahead and put it on your calendar. Just like you would schedule any other meeting with any other person, schedule time to meet one on one with the God of the Universe.
Here’s the good news, He’s not too busy to meet with you. In fact, He’s ready and willing to spend time with you whenever you are! And then choose a place. It can be anywhere, even where you are right now.
Just one piece of advice, wherever you decide to meet with God… make sure to turn down the distractions before you turn to Him in prayer.
It’s good to give God your undivided attention and uninterrupted time. Even if it’s only for a few minutes, it’s important to create a distraction free space to meet with Our Father in Heaven.
And then, talk to Him. Or, you can just be quiet. I sometimes think just spending time in the light of His presence is just as good if not better than using words in prayer.
If you need words and you’re not sure what to say, let me share with you one of my favorite prayers. Feel free to write this down and use this whenever you come to God in prayer. It’s been a blessing to me and I pray it will be a blessing you as well.
Gather Me To Be With You
O God, gather me now
to be with you
as you are with me.
Soothe my tiredness;
quiet my fretfulness;
curb my aimlessness;
relieve my compulsiveness;
let me be easy for a moment.
O Lord, release me
from the fears and guilts
which grip me so tightly;
from the expectations and opinions
which I so tightly grip,
that I may be open
to receiving what you give,
to risking something genuinely new,
to learning something refreshingly different.
O God, gather me
to be with you
as you are with me.
Amen.
